Other interesting resources

The Tread Lightly project was developed by Glenys Crawford, a Melbourne parent. Students go without one energy-saving device for 30 days. Students seek sponsorship for each day they go without this appliance, with money raised going to school environmental projects. For more information or to become involved in the Tread Lightly project, contact Glenys Crawford on 0400 443 639 or crawkaye@bigpond.net.au

SustainableMelbourne.com is a network and communication system to deliver information, to connect people and projects, to accelerate the city's transformation. Sustainable Melbourne is a project of the Victorian Eco-Innovation Lab (VEIL).

The Australian Collaboration

The Australian Collaboration is a collaboration of peak national community organisations representing social, cultural and environmental constituencies and interests. The main activities of the Collaboration are to act as a forum for the exchange of ideas and information between its member bodies and to carry out research projects and publish books and reports on key issues. The collaboration is an independent network; it has no political links and does not support any political party. The organisations participating in the work of the Australian Collaboration are:

The Australian Collaboration has produced an excellent series of free downloadable fact and issues sheets on issues like climate change, biodiversity and human wellbeing. Click Here to access them.

ENERGY and CLIMATE

Make sure you locate the copies of the Save Energy@School CD and the Shut Down Guide now being provided, again, to State Schools by the Department of Education. The CD has most of the energy/greenhouse curriculum you will need but has hardly been used despite being sent out to schools over the last 2 years- a classic case of information dump rather than teacher support through mentoring.

Other useful sites include:

?Greenhouse Calculator: (part of a useful resource called Global Warming, Cool It )

?Energy Audit Tools: click HERE

?The Energy Doctor (provides a service to calculate savings)

The ?Origin Personal Energy Use Calculator enables calculation of individual use of energy in a household and conversion to costs and carbon dioxide equivalents, and may be able to be adapted to use for a school.

?EPA Household Greenhouse Calculator and Schools Calculator

Climate Friendly Calculator enables calculation of annual greenhouse emissions based on annual electricity use in kwh/day; calculating greenhouse impact of various activities.

??Calculating Ecological Footprint of schools - Eco'tude (requires registration if you want to save your results)

The Weather Makers (see educational resources section of site) http://www.theweathermakers.com/

The Department OF Environment And Water Resources produces a number of resources about climate change. These include:

??Resources for students and teachers:

?See the list at: http://www.greenhouse.gov.au/publications/index.html.

?Fact Sheets (for 8-14 year olds): and tips on a nearby page.

Some of these are available from the Australian Greenhouse Office bookshop, by phoning 1300 130 606. See CERES sustainability hub on http://sustainability.ceres.org.au website for school examples.
