When complete, this framework will guide the Commissioner's approach to the assessments and enable all stakeholders to understand what is expected. A copy of the Implementation Plan can be seen by CLICKING HERE. In July 2005, the Australian National Commission for UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific, Cultural Organisation) held the national symposium to launch the international initiative here within Australia and to raise awareness of the decade in Australia amongst a wide range of sectors. This included educations organisations and associations, universities and TAFE Colleges, business and industry associations, Government Departments, Local Government, Non Government Organisations with an environmental or social portfolio, both here within Australia and further a field. But what's happening at a Victorian Level? With an initiative of this size and duration as well as its potential to really install sustainability education into communities and people across the globe, its really important to pull together on the strategic initiatives but also enthuse independent activity at a more local grass roots level. VAEE is pulling together a state-wide Alliance to continue to raise this awareness at a more local level and explore potential partnerships and collaborative activities to implement the objectives of the DESD. A working party for the Alliance will be set up to identify what the Alliance would need to achieve and how it would be organised to ensure that it includes the socio-cultural, environmental and economic perspectives needed to address the important concerns and challenges of sustainability in its entirety. If you are interested in taking part in this working party or the Alliance itself please contact teresa in the VAEE office. In addition to this VAEE endeavors to keep you up to date with the international, national and state developments and what this means to you as an environmental educator. This will be achieved by distributing news to its members and here on the website. We are looking to promote activities that embrace the decade. If you have an even or program of activity that strives to help Victoria meet the objectives of the DESD then tell us about it. In July, the Australian National Commission for UNESCO hosted a National Symposium for the Decade right here in Melbourne. The symposium was organised to raise awareness of the decade and explore potential partnerships and collaborative activities to underpin the objective of DESD. A report has now been released providing advice and suggestions on how the sector would like to see the DESD planned, developed and implemented. It sets out goals and objective and priorities, identifies key stakeholders and the co-ordination of activities across local, state/territory levels. This report has gone out to all who attended and key National Government Departments. The report can be used as a lobby / advocacy tool. VAEE will take this report and work with you, our membership, to shape the objectives and priorities for Victoria, in line with the draft learning to live sustainably strategy.
